Dalekovod is constructing the eastern section of the 420 kV Blåfalli – Gismarvik transmission line for Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett. Valued at more than EUR 63 million, the contract covers the construction of 59 kilometres of new transmission line across the challenging terrain of southwestern Norway, with project implementation spanning from 2024 to 2027. More than 120 workers are engaged on the project, supported by a 22-member project team. Works are being carried out simultaneously along the route and include tower foundation works, assembly of steel structures, electrical installation works and conductor stringing. One of the key challenges is the demanding geology of the terrain. Actual ground conditions at certain locations have required adjustments to foundation construction methods, including the implementation of specialised foundation solutions previously not used by Dalekovod. The project is further complicated by two fjord crossings and demanding transport logistics, with helicopters extensively used to transport materials, equipment and personnel. Construction activities must also accommodate the specific weather conditions of southwestern Norway, characterised by heavy rainfall, strong winds and rapidly changing weather. Certain phases, including conductor stringing across existing power corridors, can only be carried out during predefined outage periods, making precise planning and coordination between all parties essential. Stringent quality and safety requirements are applied throughout every stage of the project, from preparation and foundation works to final electrical installation. Continuous quality control, the daily presence of occupational health and safety specialists, and employee training are integral to the organisation of works on site. The Blåfalli – Gismarvik project also marks another milestone in Dalekovod’s long-standing presence in the Norwegian market. Experience gained through the delivery of numerous projects, well-established internal systems and procedures, and extensive expertise in operating under demanding conditions have enabled Dalekovod to build a strong position within Norway’s power transmission sector. The project also plays an important role in developing Dalekovod’s next generation of experts. Experienced members of the project team are sharing their knowledge with younger colleagues, for whom Blåfalli – Gismarvik represents one of their first major international projects and an opportunity to gain valuable experience on a technically and organisationally demanding construction site.
