Dalekovod continues to strengthen its presence in the Swedish market with the signing of a contract with Svenska kraftnät, Sweden’s national transmission system operator, for the 400 kV Uppsalapaketet project. Valued at nearly SEK 3.4 billion, equivalent to more than EUR 300 million including the optional scope of works, the contract represents one of Dalekovod’s most significant achievements in the international market.
The project involves the construction of two new parallel 400 kV transmission lines along an approximately 94-kilometre route between the Mehedeby and Uppsala substations. In addition to the new transmission lines, the scope of works includes the dismantling of existing 220 kV transmission lines and the construction of a new 220 kV line. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the entire project expected to be completed by 2032 and individual sections commissioned in phases.
The works are divided into two main sections, Södra and Norra. The Södra section includes the construction of 168 tower foundations, the erection of approximately 3,000 tonnes of steel structures and the stringing of 60.7 kilometres of conductors. The Norra section has been agreed as an option valued at EUR 180 million, covering an additional 365 foundations, approximately 5,400 tonnes of steel structures and 128 kilometres of conductor stringing.
A Key Contribution to the Modernisation of Sweden’s Transmission Grid
Uppsalapaketet forms part of NordSyd, Svenska kraftnät’s wider investment programme aimed at significantly increasing electricity transmission capacity between northern and southern Sweden. With planned investments exceeding SEK 100 billion, NordSyd is the largest investment programme undertaken by the Swedish transmission system operator to date. Through its involvement in Uppsalapaketet, Dalekovod will contribute to the development of critical infrastructure designed to enhance the capacity and reliability of Sweden’s transmission grid.
The new contract also marks another milestone in Dalekovod’s long-standing cooperation with Svenska kraftnät, further strengthening its position in the Scandinavian market. Among its ongoing projects in Sweden is the Odensala – Kappetorp transmission line, valued at more than EUR 100 million. In 2026, Dalekovod-Projekt also signed four new contracts with a combined value of EUR 29.41 million for the design of the 400 kV transmission lines Stora Luleälven, Hall – Hedenlunda, Njutånger – Mehedeby and Skåne Syd.
These design contracts, carried out by a consortium comprising Dalekovod-Projekt and Tyréns, cover feasibility studies, design documentation and technical support during construction, with implementation scheduled between 2027 and 2038.
With the Uppsalapaketet contract, Dalekovod, a member of the KONČAR Group, continues to expand its international project portfolio and demonstrate its expertise in delivering complex power transmission infrastructure projects.
